November happenings...

November was filled with fun and adventures. Perhaps most memorable was my very first ride in an ox cart. Based on my experience I would say I now know:
1. Oxen stink - especially when wading through filthy water.
2. They're incredibly powerful beasts and not scared off by a 4 foot verticle climb of slippery rock - even when chest deep in water and pulling a full load!
3. Ox carts have an amazing ability to not tip. Thank goodness for that!
4. While the experience is fun, walking is faster and potentially a less dirty option.
While visiting schools I was a little surprised to see Christmas crafts being made already in the middle of November. Of course, the Nicaraguan school year ends in November, so I guess you've got to start early if you want to do any of those fun things at school!

I also spent some time visiting local private schools. This little school, Luz de Camino, had many great plans. One is to use this room as a library/computer lab. From the looks of it this plan has been in the work for quite some time, with typical Nicaraguan speed at bringing it to fruition.

I had the thrilling experience of getting myself stuck. I know it doesn't look all that bad, but there was a hidden step of stone and absolutely no traction to pull the truck up and over (or back out). Of course, I was wearing sandals, so I barefoot it to the top of the hill.
